Who is Billy BANG ?

Billy Bang (born January 26, 1987) is an acclaimed independent rapper, engineer, producer, and award winning actor who has the entire DMV (DC,MD, VA) metro  area music scene buzzing.  Born and raised in the housing projects of LeFrak City Queens, Billy Bang has steadily been making a name for himself on the independent music scene since relocating to Washington D.C. over 6 years ago.  After first being featured on SoSo Def recording artist Brandon Hines 2005 debut album,  Love Music, Billy Bang has been gaining acclaim for both his infectious music and award winning acting roles. 

Billy BANG’s buzz has been growing in the DC region and along the East Coast thanks to his high-energy stage shows and heavy internet presence that support his dynamic music.  Billy Bang began by 1st establishing his initial fan-base at his own college, the African-American entertainment mecca, Howard University.  Since enrolling at Howard in 2005 as an audio production major, Billy Bang has honed his craft and learned every aspect of the music –making process.  He quickly became known as the preeminent emcee and engineer on campus.  After spending his first few years in D.C.  featuring, writing, producing, and engineering for other local D.C. & college artists, Billy Bang stepped to the forefront with the 2009 release of his single – I’M A MAC.   This song served as the lead single from his debut mixtape- C.R.E.A.M. 2010.   The mixtape also doubled as the soundtrack to the independent movie – CREAM; which was written and directed by Emmy award winner Ryan Cole.  CREAM marked Billy BANG’s 2nd starring role in an independent film.  Billy Bang’s unavoidable DMV college presence exploded with the summer release of his break out single GO SO HAM.  Billy Bang’s local popularity was solidified when he was voted by the student body as WHBC Radio’s Howard’s Hottest MC in Oct. 2010. GO SO HAM’s popularity was on full display this past fall when Billy BANG performed at Howard’s legendary homecoming to a crowd of over 6000 students going ham.

              With the summer 2010 release of his mixtape - REINCARNATED - Billy Bang’s accolades and buzz were not just limited to the Howard community.  This past year Billy Bang has headlined or featured in over 40 concerts, showcases and parties.  In May 2010, he was featured on the BET television show “The DEAL” as D.C.’s next up & coming underground artist out of the DMV.  Billy Bang was a standout in the locally popular “D.C. Capital City Cipher” series & BEAT CLASH battles.  Billy BANG was most recently interviewed on the legendary DJ Kay Slay’s SHADE 45 radio show.    Bang’s music and videos have been featured on numerous national and local Hip-Hop sites & blogs including 2 Dope Boyz, ONSMASH.com,  Queens Hip-Hop, and DMV All Access.  Billy BANG’s J. Dilla tribute freestyle video received 50,000 views its first day on ONSMASH.com. 

Billy BANG continues to promote his music and artistry while cultivating his growing fan base.   His authentic and passionate lyrics tell his story of a Queens’ kid that has spent his life caught between the streets, school, and music.
